Time to replace your unit?

When your unit breaks down, you call a professional to come and fix the problem. But after a while, you realize you’re calling them every week because a new issue arises. At that point, it might be time to replace it. You might think it’ll be okay if you just keep getting it fixed every time it breaks down, since it is more expensive to replace the whole unit. Still, you’re probably spending more money repairing it every time it breaks down than you would be replacing it and giving yourself peace of mind for a long time. The installation of a new HVAC system is something that you should take seriously. It’s not something that you want to do over and over again. Installing a new HVAC system is an investment. You are investing in your home, your family, and yourself. The cost of installing a new unit may seem high at first, but it will save you money in the long run.

Sometimes you may not need to completely replace your system. We, Ranger HVAC, have had instances where a customer’s unit is constantly breaking down and another company would tell them to completely replace their units, which is understandable. After being suggested to replace their system they would call us and when we further analyze their unit we see there is something that needs to be fixed and may be what is causing the problem. Not everyone will know when to get a second opinion so it is good to have an idea of when it may be time to replace your unit so here are some things to look out for that might mean it’s time to replace your unit instead of constantly repairing it.

It is over 10 Years old

Most HVAC units last 10-25 years, depending on the brand of unit you have. If you realize you are having more problems with your unit than usual, make sure you check when it was made or installed. If it is over 10 years and it is constantly giving you trouble, it might be time to replace it.

You have not been getting maintenance regularly done on your units

It may not seem that important, but you need to have your unit regularly checked and maintained. Getting your unit regularly maintained is a way of preventing possible issues that may arise in your unit. Neglecting the maintenance of your unit will send it to an early grave.

Your energy bill keeps increasing.

As your unit gets older, it becomes less and less efficient meaning it needs to draw on more power to keep itself running, which leads to a higher energy bill.
